The brief for Great Ocean Road Residence was to create a home-away-from-home against a spectacular coastal backdrop for a growing family, and a place of sanctuary for generations to come.
Sited on a unique position atop a prominent cliff, the residence was designed to withstand a harsh marine environment with robust materials, practical ingenuity and timeless aesthetics.
Crucial to the architecture is its embrace of the wild Australian coastline. This rare position informs the residence’s dramatic view lines, natural materials which tie it to the land, fire-rated construction, geothermal heating and environmentally sensitive design.
The layout offers flexibility of use, allowing for both shared intimate moments and large family gatherings. The interiors are defined by a layering of hard, warm and natural textures; durable and practical finishes; grand proportions under high cantilevered ceilings; and quiet beauty from the solid construction which provides silence against winds.
Within each space, seamless and sustainable principles combine with natural luxury, creating a place of true belonging, and a residence to endure on an iconic coastal setting.
