Inspired from the old city streets of Mathura this 800 room university hostel creates organic spaces.
5 linear blocks snake across a wedge shaped site bending along their length. Sitting adjacent to repetitive hostel blocks on either side these new blocks create individual spaces with a discernible identity in each part of the layout.
The orientation of all blocks are done with a view of generating large north facing gardens overlooking a vast playground. Each room is punctuated with a wedge shaped bay window oriented towards the north and a ventilation opening facing the internal corridor facilitating cross ventilation. Small break out spaces created at each bending point of the block allow natural light into internal corridors.
These factors create an energy efficient building minimizing heat gain in response to a climate which has 8 hot months in a year. Due to the bay-windows indirect sunlight is facilitated inside the rooms throughout the year.
Two focal areas are created at the ends to house cafeterias and games opening onto gardens and terraces.
The organic layout of the buildings characterizes spaces within the site.
