The Kaban lakes system is a natural monument, the largest lake system in terms of water area (193 hectares) in Tatarstan. There are 24 cultural heritage sites along the design area. Since 19th century, industrialization has been the cause of lakes` water pollution. Despite the 30-year-long treatment measures, the water remains dirty and the ecosystem is deteriorating.
The Turenscape + MAP consortium won the competition in2015 for the development of the concept, initiated by Natalia Fishman-Bekmambetova, the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Tatarstan Bureau “Architecturniy Desant”developed and implemented a project.
The project takes into account the existing conditions, it has breathed new life into the surrounding area and daily improves the ecological state of the lake, it is an important component of the sustainable development of the city.
To emphasize the linear nature of the facility and create opportunities for various activities along the embankment, a park loop has been implemented, where the functional areas, green spaces, a network of pedestrian footpaths, a slow movement system, landscape nodes and public infrastructure create a single spac?.
