Located in the d’Estimauville eco-district, the CNESST head office plays a pivotal role in the sector's revitalization strategy. With a surface area of 34,500 m² and an indoor parking lot with 640 spots, the building can welcome more than 1,800 employees. Its work and lounge spaces are structured around an eight-story atrium.
This atrium is the focal point of the architectural concept: a place to gather, socialize and recharge. It features a triangulated wooden structure and a floor-to-ceiling glass façade. An imposing wooden staircase leads to each floor while offering different vantage points on the atrium and on the outside.
To carry out this project, the multidisciplinary team had to submit a request for equivalent measures to the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ). With the help of digital simulations, they developed an elaborate smoke control system to ensure the building—and its wooden structure—are safe and secure. This innovative solution reflects their commitment to sustainable architecture.
