The Banco de México Museum is an interactive museum whose objective is to disclose and explain to the public the functions and importance of the Central Bank. The main building of the Bank of Mexico, whose construction dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, was chosen as the venue for this new museum.
To fulfill their new vocation they adapted the basement, the ground floor and the mezzanine. On the main staircase there is a video mapping experience over the stained glass window that was designed but never materialized. In the ground floor there are interactive, playful, visual and sound experiences. Finally and as a major attraction, in the main vault, there is an immersive experience that talks about the importance of trust, a fundamental value for any Central Bank.
The respectful architectural intervention, the impeccable museography, the careful restoration, the functional furniture design, and the technological integration resulted in a project that didn´t distort the building, that understood it and that took advantage of it in his original program. In conclusion, the project revitalized the building and gave the institution a new social and educational vocation.
