Situated in the heart of Taipei's metropolitan area, this interior design project is a high-ceilinged top-floor residential unit with its disadvantaged nature of the low beam line and the half-circle architectural form. However, with a thorough evaluation and resourceful planning, the designer has overcome all these obstacles by redesigning the staircase’s direction, redirecting the upper light source to the lower space, along with compressing and releasing the spatial focus. Accordingly, these remodeling procedures offer the old building a brand-new vision. On the other hand, the architectural aesthetics of “spectacular walls and columns” has been brilliantly carried out by the design team. To elaborate, the concept has been well-executed in the design of the hollow stone stairs, the cutting of beams and columns, and the TV wall that extends upward.
Furthermore, the five-meter-long open kitchen island has become the spatial focus. The transparent and smooth living space continues in harmony with the outdoor greenery terrace, highlighting the underlying constructional relationship between the inner space and the outer base.
