The master plan covers an area of more than 30000 m2 and houses both the marketand sports fi elds for basketball baseball and soccer. One main challenge wasregenerating the deteriorated areas by improving their function and integration throughdesign location and orientation. The market plays a fundamental role as an urbancatalyst. The “umbrella structures” are confi gured asymmetrically and are lower on oneside providing passive lighting and natural ventilation systems. All materials were left intheir natural condition to allow the building to age in a dignifi ed manner.
