The West is a residential building hosting 222 apartments in Manhattan, Hell's Kitchen. The base of the building offers loft-type apartments, with a brick facade recalling the industrial character and the townhouses of Manhattan; on top, the airy apartments make the most of the views over the Manhattan Skyline. Glass boxes popping out create unique orientations and provide every unit with a private terrace. The result is a transparent and cloud-like architecture that appeals to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of New York.
The West introduces a new way of living: its condos are smartly designed to create the best residential experience, enhanced by extensive communal spaces and outdoor areas. The amenities, including a co-working area, a glasshouse library, a communal kitchen and a dining area, aim to create comfort and foster interaction between residents.
A focal point is the craftsmanship of the design. The intricate brickwork of the façade is the result of a collaboration with StoneCycling, a firm committed to the sustainable manufacturing of bricks. The bricks were custom-designed and hand-made specifically for The West. Over 260.000 kg of construction debris has been up-cycled.

Bio
concrete develops concepts. We develop them in architecture, interior, urban design, branding and conceptual programming. Whatever the brief, we begin by considering the lives of the end-user. We move from small (an individual) to large (the building).

People are changed by their buildings. Concrete’s goal is to design spaces that prod human minds in a happier direction. We do this by considering all aspects of each space: shaping the environments, envisioning routes, program the use, and imagine the experience of the people. Life, spaces, buildings. In that order.
