Our Country Escape project sits on a beautiful property in Dural serving as a weekender for our corporate clients who live in the CBD. The brief was to design a home that felt like a country lodge, with an open layout that can be used for cooking and entertaining with family and friends. To fulfill this brief, we designed an open living, kitchen, and dining area. By placing the large kitchen in the centre of the space and incorporating a barbeque and pizza oven, a variety of cooking facilities are accessible for them to enjoy. We integrated a ceiling mounted shelf to the canopy of the rangehood, so that it did not feel obtrusive in the space. Stacking sliding doors open onto a large balcony wrapping around the house creating a seamless link to the outdoors, doubling the clients’ entertaining space. Natural materials were selected including travertine pavers, rock face sandstone, timber veneer, reclaimed timber slabs and stone mosaic tiles. A wood burning fireplace and an earthy colour palette encompassing hints of the foliage seen in the garden, contributes to the feeling of immersing oneself in their natural surroundings.
