Filtered Frame Dock is a space to delight in nature and enjoy being outdoors. The aim was to create a structure that was not only a comfortable place to spend time and enhance the routine of boarding the boat, but also to create a beautiful structure that is a delight to come upon every time one is out on the lake.
The dock’s design is derived from careful calibration of shade, breezes, and views, while it’s expressive material and formal qualities amplify the experience of both inhabiting and viewing the structure. As the seasons shift, the dock provides greater shade during the heat of the summer and welcomes more sun during the cooler winter months. On the equinox, light and shadow are perfectly balanced.
The structure both integrates with its surroundings and stands out by reflecting the changing ambient light and colors of the sky, natural vegetation, and lake. By carefully looking to the site context and the sun, the dock inherently sits lightly with its minimal footprint.
