Perched on the crest of a westward canyon, this residence exudes a serene, treehouse-like ambiance, seamlessly integrating with its natural surroundings. Situated in a lush, wooded neighborhood, home to modernist houses by architects such as Ray Kappe and Richard Neutra, the design honors this heritage with principles of organic modernism.

A primary objective was to create outdoor connections at multiple levels, harmonizing with the existing topography and hillside. The use of low-carbon Western Red Cedar cladding enhances material sustainability, while fostering biophilic engagement. Terraced softscapes with native, drought-tolerant plants optimize site permeability, and overhanging trellises reduce solar heat gain. On the main floor, operable sliders along the north-south axis harness prevailing southwest winds, facilitating passive cooling while accentuating the immersive experience of living among the trees. The living areas are designed to flow effortlessly onto an expansive deck, creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. The upper floor houses the primary sleeping quarters offering views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Mountains.
