Casa Alegria is a mixed style residence located in Zicatela, Oaxaca, on the southwest coast of Mexico. The project sought to achieve a strong sense of belonging and connection with the natural and cultural environment. The mediterranean-inspired architectural style was chosen, together with the design, to foster an active beach environment and incorporate elements of vernacular architecture and local materials.
The palm palapa, new local certified parota wood and recovered and renewed wood from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which is more than 70 years old, became the main materials and the elements that give a sense of belonging and connection to the area.
The design prioritized openness, visual range and the connection between the interior and exterior spaces, creating unique dynamics of coexistence and habitability for the users.
The project has had a significant impact on the area, not only for its architectural quality and its integration into the natural and cultural environment, but also for its influence on the development of the community. Once construction was completed, neighbors began to improve their homes, which has significantly transformed the neighborhood.
