For a residential building in Munich designed by Ben Van Berkel, the editorial team of AD together with the project developers of Bauwerk selected ten of the leading interior design offices to design ten penthouses in different sizes according to their ideas. We designed and completely furnished this 168sqm apartment. A play of contrasts already laid out in the spatial layout and balanced in the harmony of form, color and material. Warmly surrounded by a wall paneling in dark wood, which separates the public part- living area with its open kitchen - from the privately used rooms - master suite with open bathroom and a study. The design pays particular attention to the staging of different surfaces, which playfully disrupt the pristine nature of the new building juxtaposing patina with smoothness, roughness with with sleekness - plaster against wood, patinated brass against natural stone. Organic liveliness and formal rigor merge in an entirely holistic concept that also includes almost all furnishings with specially designed and executed manufactured furniture and light objects. Timeless, consistent, and highly functional, yet also infused with an underlying nonchalance.
