Integrating classical collections with spectacular scenography, sculptural elements and state-of-the-art technology, our transformation of the maritime museum brings the power and drama of the sea to Paris. The scheme includes huge, sculptural ‘landmarks’ that complement the heritage architecture and immerse visitors in maritime stories – a ship’s hull, a cluster of shipping containers and a giant wave animated by projections. The scenography harmonises with the building’s historic features and modernised interior. Inhabiting the building lightly, our concept seeks to minimise touchpoints that might restrict the rhythm of the interior spaces. A finely tuned balance between contemporary design, innovation and cultural heritage, the new museum combines historic collections, tactile models, digital interactives, and innovative multimedia. The result is an immersive and unforgettable museum, suitable for a 21st century audience.
