The city of Dessau faced an imbalance as visitors from the train station would go directly to the old museum, neglecting other city areas. The "red thread," connecting Bauhaus-related industrial heritage, fails to link effectively with the new and old Bauhaus museums. This project aims to establish a visual and spatial connection between the pavilion on the city's edge and the new Bauhaus museum by adopting a vertical design approach.
The red thread pedestrian passage is developed to connect the urban landscape with the pavilion and exhibition route, focusing on repurposing the abandoned factory into glass pavilion to represent Bauhaus glass art pieces and workshop. The landscape features interventions for outdoor activities, guiding pedestrians to the pavilion and integrating it into urban fabric.
Key design elements include the stair and façade; The stairs, shaped by the glass façade, serve various functions like exhibitions and rest areas. The glass façade also reveals interior activities, blending the inside and outside. The pavilion continues the pedestrian flow up a monumental stairway, leading to a glazed overlook pointing to downtown Dessau and the new Bauhaus museum.
