This project addresses critical issues like crime, abandoned houses, socio-economic disparities, and language barriers in Milan's Umbria-Molise-Calvairate community, aiming to boost cohesion. By enhancing residents' sense of identity and belonging, it seeks to transform the area into a safer, more prosperous environment. The project uses service design principles and second-hand chairs to explore relationships and strengthen community ties. Long-term residents share their chairs and stories, helping newcomers understand the community’s history and culture, symbolizing the acceptance of new members. This fosters connection and cross-cultural communication. The chairs represent the "Theater of Home" concept, symbolizing continuity of history and emotion. During building renovations, involving residents ensures that new structures feel familiar, reducing resistance. Externally, red lines on buildings introduce a new aesthetic, while internally, the lines connect works from different eras, creating continuity. The project is not just an architectural transformation but an experience that enhances communication, and fosters a safer, more harmonious community environment.
