As Singapore continues to progress, there are still groups of lower-income families that face multi-faceted issues and struggle to financially provide for themselves. Inclusivity will be a bigger challenge to gel communities together if we become more unequal and socially stratified. It is thus imperative Singaporeans are mindful and sensitive to the evolving needs of individuals and families as we pave our way forward. This architectural research project challenges the status quo on how prosperous cities like Singapore can continue to enable lower income groups to thrive amidst their struggles whereby architecture can be a potential element to bridge this chasm. The selected site 93 Jalan Dua, can be a catalyst that re-ignites the essence of communal living in Singapore.
Project Revitalise aims to reduce the stigmatisation of poverty while giving low-income families a ‘springboard’ to lead a better quality of life. The vision adopts co-housing strategies and open opportunities through program, to upgrade their skillsets and integrate them back into society in a meaningful way, preventing urban isolation while redefining mass housing strategies in Singapore.
