The Museum of Bollywood Musicals is the Manhattan branch of the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. It is a celebration of the energy and vibrancy of musical sequences in Hindi cinema- the largest and oldest film industry. The project repurposes a parking garage building in midtown Manhattan, and challenges the "white box" stereotype of exhibition spaces through design and visitor involvement. The focal point of the museum is the dance performance space on the ground floor where flash mobs happen every hour. Visitors can spontaneously dance with the group, following the steps from the music video projected on the big screen. Dramatic, curving staircases cut through the triple volume space with dance steps patterned on their surfaces, which visitors can follow to the rhythm of the music. The museum also has a music performance space on the 4th floor, with live music performances matching the song that visitors would be dancing to on the ground floor. Exhibits include Bollywood through the years, set and costume design, and screening spaces. The programs, colours, and activity create an immersive experience and allows visitors to dive into the spectacular world of Bollywood.

Bio
With an MFA degree in Interior Design, a Master of Architecture degree, and experience in healthcare architecture, the driving force behind my designs is the experience of the user within the space. While I enjoy exploring different aesthetic styles for each project, my approach is rooted in research on the program, user, site, history and cultural qualities of the intended project. Design shapes commmunities, and I believe tasteful design choices should be for people of all backgrounds and socio economic statuses. Design equity is what I aim to achieve as a professional Interior Designer.
