In designing assisted living spaces for the elderly, balancing physical needs with fostering community, connectivity, and shared experiences is the challenge. Traditional designs often focus on functionality, overlooking the emotional and social needs vital to resident's well-being. My concept, "Uniting Communities Through Cultural Exchange," envisions a space where elders from diverse cultural backgrounds in Cape Town can come together and share their wisdom through life experiences. The design emphasizes the positive impact of social interaction and shared experiences on the well-being of elderly individuals. It incorporates cultural elements and Cape Town artists to facilitate communal activities, gatherings, and storytelling sessions. The design addresses their emotional and psychological needs by encouraging residents to engage and form meaningful relationships. This approach enriches their daily lives, enhancing mental well-being and fostering a sense of belonging.
