Ananda. meaning 'bliss' or 'blissful state of being' is the core purpose and design intent of this assisted living facility.

Introducing the importance of experiencing nature in this design proposal provides environmental stimulation (visual and tactile) and improves physiological and psychological health. Overall keeping the focus on improved occupant health, well-being and stimulating the senses.

Biophilia refers to our innate connection with nature, by basing the design intent on this, a sense of tranquility, relaxation and bliss is induced.

Throughout the design, maximised natural light filtration, greenery and nature inspired finishes are the key features which lend itself to the concept.

The layout is inspired by a plant structure, the veins within something as simple, yet complex as a leaf. The implementation of repetition of design elements (mostly line, shape and form) provides reinforcement and assists in elderly associative memory.

In addition, the colour palette chosen, although simple, according to the phycology, induces a sense of calm.

All these factors play a major role in how the space is perceived and the impact on the elderly occupants.

Bio
After much self-reflection, I began to understand my 'why'. I aim to enhance the human experience, to evoke emotion, self-awareness and harmony. My intention is to design to make an impact and create a sense of wellbeing throughout form and space. Exploring a holistic approach to creating intentional and purposeful design.
