InterContinental Chicago is a luxury hotel worthy of a storied location. The interior design elevates each space in a Mediterranean mélange that complements the building’s exterior architecture and past life as the Medinah Athletic Club. With the goal of elevating the building’s interior to a new luxury standard while maintaining its historic charm, our interior designers relished this chance to put their stamp on another Chicago landmark.

The concept borrows from the Shriners’ sense of Levantine kitsch. Each guest room is reimagined with textured wall coverings and headboards in Moorish patterns. King guest rooms feature Assyrian-style animal art prints with each figure sporting a Shriner fez. Guest room corridors juxtapose tonal textured wallpaper with blue trim. Meeting rooms, walkways and public spaces are infused with Mediterranean influence. Boardrooms feature intricate wallcovering and fringed Arabian carpets; the winding corridors connecting public spaces feature warm wood tones and intricate wall tiles.

The redesign achieves a careful synthesis of the building’s past with contemporary tastes, delivering a set of new experiences to delight today’s luxury travelers.
