The Botanical Library's concept of "Green Enveloping a Cultural Landscape" stems from a respect for nature and a commitment to symbiosis. The site is lush with trees, birdsong, and squirrels roaming through the woods, creating a vibrant ecosystem. The design, informed by the site itself, selected and preserved native trees larger than 300mm in diameter, creating a harmonious blend between the building and the forest.
The building's form is inspired by a gently falling leaf, symbolizing the continuity of knowledge and nature. This "leaf" is more than just a roof; it is integrated into the landscape. The gently curled leaf forms the main space of the Botanical Library below, while the upper surface transforms into a grassy slope, extending and connecting to the existing forest. This form not only echoes the flexible gestures of nature, but also lends the building a light and unassuming presence within its surroundings.
In terms of spatial design, openings and courtyards within the library allow the native trees to freely flow through the building and into the interior. Reading amidst the trees, visitors experience the light, shadows, wind, and scent.
