The renovation of BNL’s historic building in Turin for the ESCP campus introduces a contemporary volume in the courtyard, housing large lecture halls and a conference room. The historic structure instead accommodates smaller classrooms, offices, and study areas, shaping a compact vertical campus that merges historical character with modern functionality while ensuring efficient energy and flow management.
A new glass entrance on Via Doria creates an “urban piazza” that strengthens the dialogue between the school and the city, accessible to the public through services such as a learning center and a café.
Sustainability is central to the project: the thermal envelope is upgraded, existing structures are reused, and recycled materials are employed. Photovoltaic panels, LED lighting, and an advanced energy management system reduce environmental impact, while dedicated charging points encourage the use of bicycles and electric vehicles.
The intervention exemplifies the integration of past and future, civic life and academic mission, reaffirming the role of the university as a cultural and social landmark within Turin’s historic center.
