Revitalizing Modernism: Mercure Bangkok Surawong

The renovation of Mercure Bangkok Surawong pays tribute to the district’s modernist heritage while introducing refined, contemporary detailing. With no driveway around the site, the service zone was elevated above parking, preserving an open and welcoming ground-level entrance.

The façade reflects the geometric precision of mid-century modernism through sculpted volumes and staggered balconies. Key to this transformation is the use of white cement precast panels, chosen for their tactile, slightly rustic finish. This surface quality brings a classic character that resonates with the aging elegance of surrounding modernist buildings, allowing the new structure to blend with its context while standing out with quiet confidence.

Metallic composite panels at the lobby and rooftop bar contrast the white cement, adding reflectivity and modern flair. Together, these materials balance old and new, solid and sleek. The result is a building that reinterprets the past with thoughtful clarity — honoring its urban setting while shaping a timeless identity.
