Green Island is the second-phase design for the Jiading Jialuo 110kV Substation Upgrade, commissioned by State Grid Jiading Power Supply Company. The project reimagines a typically closed utility facility as a green, interactive urban node. Using a double-skin facade, the design introduces a structure that breathes, grows, and stores energy—where people and nature coexist in balance.
Set within Jiading’s eastern residential area, the site borders housing, a community center, and a kindergarten. The south and east facades use photovoltaic panels with operable units that respond to seasonal changes, enhancing energy efficiency and creating shaded public areas. The west and north facades feature perforated aluminum panels with integrated planting, forming a green screen to buffer adjacent residences.
A cantilevered facade on the south defines a linear street park, connecting a plaza, nearby homes, and a kindergarten. The design integrates energy, ecology, and urban life, transforming passive infrastructure into an open, shared, and vibrant space.
