Longquan Wangou Art Avenue reimagines a century-old military-industrial site in Longquan, Zhejiang Province, as a vibrant mixed-use cultural district. Faced with limited municipal resources, the project adopts a compact, adaptive reuse strategy, preserving existing factory structures while introducing targeted insertions to enhance spatial function.
Through “Textural Memory + Spatial Interweaving,” elevated walkways, nested volumes, and courtyards connect formerly fragmented buildings, transforming the site into a layered, walkable urban framework.
A cluster-based layout integrates exhibition, studios, retail, civic, and waterfront functions, supported by a second-level circulation spine and reactivated “grey spaces.” Preserved trees anchor public courtyards, fostering environmental comfort and community engagement.
Blending heritage conservation with large-scale spatial planning, the project demonstrates how industrial regeneration can deliver low-rise, high-intensity development—offering a replicable model for inclusive urban transformation in smaller cities.
