In 2023, the High Museum of Art—a cultural landmark and the largest visual arts museum in the Southeastern United States—underwent a critical roof replacement. With an aging 20-year-old roof, the challenge was to upgrade the thermal performance to meet modern energy codes while maintaining the architectural integrity of the building originally designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier.

OPTIM-R vacuum insulated panels provided a high-performance, ultra-thin insulation solution that preserved the building’s iconic form. With industry-leading thermal conductivity, OPTIM-R met strict R-value requirements within minimal roof height, eliminating costly structural changes or visual disruptions. Lightweight and easy to install, the system reduced labor and materials, contributing to faster installation and lower environmental impact. Seamlessly integrated into a sensitive retrofit, the solution delivers long-term energy savings, increased roof durability, and supports the building’s legacy. OPTIM-R balances innovation, sustainability, and architectural respect.
