From the very beginning, this project is a willful work of space whose functionality is hard to define. The owner set out a place for a guesthouse that also serves to display his collection, thereby combining wonderful things, his feelings and memories, all into one.
In accordance with the owner’s wish, a makeover has to be launched to make up for the unusual location and layout. Adjacent to old buildings on either side, the presence and aesthetics of the guesthouse has to be highlighted. Installed on the façade is a picture of overlapping hills made of iron parts. Paired with light projected outward, the image of mountains constructs a countenance of composure and magnificence, leaving a deep first impression on its viewers.
Besides, as the façade is skew rather than parallel to the street, to make it look more even, part of the arcade is truncated to leave more room for the hallway on the first floor.
Together with the gentle slope, a more open view is created, also resolving the problem of dampness permeating indoors on rainy days. It features the owner’s favorite—neo-Chinese style and Japanese style.
