This project intervention intends to spread through different phases to make existing abandoned or unsafe spaces accessible by the general public; the same motto of 'giving space back to the public' has been widely adopted. The site lies right in the heart of the most nightlife hotspot but slowly and unnoticeably turned out almost inaccessible due to various activities and occurrences that have taken over along the years. A historic palace also engulfs the project site, so a sustainable design solution to tick as many boxes as one can be key.
The design aims to open up the existing 'walled' public space by inviting people into a safe and comfortable environment, addressing and allocating dedicated space to an array of all-year-round cultural activities held on-site. This area regeneration reintroduces and injects life back into the utility of this precious space. An immediate side street renowned for outdoor leisure directly leads to this open space has been included in offering the boulevard experience. It will narrate the pedestrians' natural flow towards the piazza while offering the surprising effect with the former glory's restored imposing historical palace as a backdrop.
