This project is a renovation of a public-school library. The designer draws inspiration from the environment, infusing the terrain features of Yilan into the design, where the city is surrounded by mountains and facing the Pacific.
Upon entering the library, the light wood on the floor, the canary yellow of the walls, and the bright lights are designed to establish a spacious sensation, relieving the students’ stress from studying. The circulation desk area is big enough for the librarian to work, while readers lining along the desk, waiting to be processed.
The design of the stage and the stand is rather simple and focus on the functionality with built-in storage space. Lights with bird figures are lit at the reading bar in front of the windows, soaring in sky of imagination with readers. With sufficient seating including comfortable sofas and chairs, the library is open to every student teacher to discuss and have meetings. The bookcases that load all the books are designed in an irregular white, mimicking the look of clouds. The shorter bookcases provide a view without being blocked, which leads to an openness in mind.
