A residential project designed for a Chinese family of 3 and a pet who lives in a three-storey independent house with an actual sizing of around 3,000 sf. The house is relatively having the potential of enormous space and various window focal points in different corners, yet lacking a well-planned layout to enhance the practicality in usage and the quality of living. With an indulgence in the new Japanese-Chinese eastern Zen style, our client decided to reconstruct his house to realize the oriental heritage culture into living. The design approach for the new Zen style is to adopt "lighter aesthetics" to replace the darker tone of furniture, wall, and lighting design, while demonstrating the essence of "Zen" - Emptiness, also delivering calmness and getting rid of old aging. Besides, a place to have a tea appreciation moment - "MingCha", is indispensable for this family. So, the designer created a tea room equipped with the gardenia, showcasing several favorite collections from the owner, vintage teapots, cups, and different kinds of tea, while the furniture is in earth and wooden tone, merges the room with a cultural sense, also bring an innovative yet heritage home to them.
