Situated in the rural, border town of Castlederg, this project reflects a symbiotic relationship between client and architect, adjacent to a pilgrimage site, it has a little of the spiritual about it.

Having purchased the site with planning permission for a very traditional style bungalow and having lived in cellular dwellings, the client sought to challenge planning service and deliver an unique, bespoke home.

So, the process began to design a building which would sit within the site, deliver a family home which would entertain, engage, was light, bright and had the personality of the inhabitants.

The key areas in the overall design can be considered as the hinged point, the staircase with double height space welcoming you, allowing you to orientate.
The family, entertainment space, the happy heart, open to the landscape, open to the mind and open to the family.
Other spaces become ancillary, the working spaces.

The use of three materials in stone, render and metal ensured a palette which was controlled, efficient and effective in its message.

This house is not dictatorial, it is open, its friendly whilst minimal, its warm yet stripped back, its special and unique.
