The new UOB headquarters is located in the main arterial road of Bangkok, Sukhumvit, in a very central part of town. The design of the 21 storey offices was complex due to the irregular architecture of the building so it was imperative to create a design principle that can be adopted as a typical layout and adjusted to each floor and space. The team focused on coming up with simple planning strategies which could be easily understood and oriented.
UOB has multiple branches around the world, so for this property the main design concept was “ a discovery of Thailand”. dwp represented the 4 different regions of Thailand in the design characteristics, the mountains of the North, the fields in the North-Eastern region, the city in he central part of Thailand the the islands of the South. The executive floors and the Penthouse was designed to represent the Peak, being the highest point in Thailand. The design starts with the islands on the bottom and works its way up to the Peak at the top, with each section showcasing different colour combinations and incorporating specific graphic patterns from local artists to enhance each characteristic.
