Project Link
Mirror Mountain is located within a residential area of Zhubei City, Taiwan.
In this project, the staircase is considered as a continuously changing (third) wall in the space, sometimes operating in a closed condition and sometimes open, transforming dependent on its surrounding situations. This connective role of the internal staircase allows the dining space to become more than a “still” area, and able to be utilized as an important “central social hub” within the house, linking the kitchen, the living room, the void and the mezzanine closely together.
Terrace boxes, balconies in combination with eaves cantilevered off the elevations, establishing unique characteristics between housing units within the overall collective structure. In terms of the core living value, these elements become the intricate boundary that regulates between the inside and outside: the eave slopes down as it extends outward, opening up the city view horizontally; the terrace wall combines external conditions internally, bringing in backyard-like space and atmosphere, creating duo rain experiences between two facing elevations within one singular space.
Bio Bachelor of Architecture, University of Success, Master of Architecture and Urban-Rural Studies, National Taiwan University. He is currently the chief architect of Ting-Tseng Shen (STT) Architects, and a lecturer at Shih Chien University.
He reinterprets and understands architecture through nature, creating poetic architectural spaces and layered experience spatially within the living environment of the house.
Other prizes Architizer A+ Awards, and other international and domestic architectural awards, Ting-Tseng Shen was awarded with the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Awards and selected as a Finalist for Dezeen Awards, the Taiwan Architecture Award, and Far East Architecture Award, etc.
