The Landon is a 340-unit residential building located on West 43rd street. Built over two decades prior, the site was in need of a significant renovation to keep up with the surrounding developments. Complex interventions were needed for the lobby, amenity and fitness, and rooftop spaces.
To create a grand and sweeping space at the building's lobby, an existing vestibule was removed and replaced with a revolving door. This allowed for the lobby to extend the full width of the alloted space and not be chopped up into parts.
The original cramped amenity lounge was eventually relocated to the double height space to the building's south, which had been a gym and basketball court. This impressive and column-free space, with nearly 18’ of ceiling height, was kept open for a variety of social uses. Two oversized skylights created the required ceiling height for the relocated gym spaces nearby.
An underused mechanical space was converted on the penthouse level to an intimate new lounge, and new windows created to reveal a sweeping vista to the south. The roof deck was made possible through significant mechanical and structural interventions to relocate building systems.
