The Hubei Coordination Urban Renewal Scheme is one of the largest urban regeneration schemes in Shenzhen, China. The project will see the protection and transformation of the 500-year-old ‘Old Hubei Village’ as part of a major regional cultural, commercial and tourism destination.

Lead8 was appointed to deliver the overall retail planning and retail architecture design for the A1-A4 plots. The design provides the platform to link Old Hubei Village with the mixed-activity programme featuring more than 25 commercial, residential and hotel towers across 400,000 sqm.

As the birthplace of Shenzhen, the Hubei area is considered a challenging high-density site to carry out a renewal scheme of this nature.

With its unique context, the design by Lead8 explores the area’s ancient history within a modern context, maintaining the balance between the regeneration and protection of the Old Hubei Village.
Envisioned as the new East Gateway to Shenzhen, the Hubei Coordination Renewal Scheme will be defined in Shenzhen’s history as one of the most significant urban regeneration undertakings.
