Hangzhou KAI Innovation Office Complex is situated at the gateway of neighboring Zhejiang University. It was designed as a social melting pot for office conglomerate, serving corporate headquarters, mid-size enterprises, start-ups and co-working space. Interlocking masses open up a central courtyard, allow natural light and cross ventilation for both indoor and outdoor space. A communal stairs penetrate through the courtyard and interconnect programs from L1 to L5, providing multi-dimensional event spaces, while ancillary programs are juxtaposed as boxes, enhancing connectivity for all users. Window wall system is adopted for facade design, responding to view angles and sun path for better energy performance. The vertical sun shading blade and the horizontal spandrel reverses its angle for different orientation, creates unique identities for occupants in the stacking masses. This landmark has become a 24/7 social place for entrepreneurs, university students and communities, and redefines new office typology in Asia.
