My proposal for the renovation of the clinic focuses on creating a welcoming environment for patients. Visiting a doctor when feeling ill can bring stress to a patient. Through my design choices, I aimed to put the patient at ease, while creating a pleasant workplace for the staff.

As part of my design language, I introduced curved edges and designs. In plan, these curved edges bring a soft fluidity to the walls and joinery and provide a safety measure from sharp corners to those who may be unsteady on their feet. In elevation, the windows along the passage in a pill shape break up the monotony of the long passage while providing access to daylight from the exam rooms.

The Cape Peninsula is known as the Cape of Good Hope. To contextualize the space in the Western Cape, I wanted to draw from our landscape having both mountains and oceans. I used blues, greens, and golden yellows and combined this with timber accents to add a natural warmth to the interiors.
