Tonari, which means neighbor or neighborhood, draws inspiration from the cozy and quaint aesthetics of Japanese home interiors during the Showa period. The goal is to create a welcoming space reminiscent of the 1980s in Japan, focusing on authenticity rather than following contemporary aesthetic trends.
The interiors of Tonari embody the neonostalgic trend, evoking a sense of longing through specific details and a unique atmosphere as well as dim lightning. The space is divided into different zones tailored to various dining experiences, including classic dining areas, a bar for solo diners, and an intimate tatami mat seating section.
A focal point of the design is the bar, resembling a traditional Japanese kitchen with mint-colored mosaic tiles and shelves stacked with Japanese dishes. The main characteristic features are: dark lacquered wood, tatami mats, typical wallpapers, mint green colour and dim lighting.
