Qibie Arcadia is a residential renovation project located in Yunnan Province, China. We used local materials and construction methods, collaborating with local craftsmen to maintain the local lifestyle while providing a comfortable living environment. It allows visitors to stay for a week or longer, fully integrating with the local villagers, and creates a shared living space for two different groups. We hope that the courtyard project becomes an integral part of the village, and sets a new standard for the village's new houses, introducing practical innovations for the local residents.
We retained most of the original layout and preserved key living elements in the courtyard, such as the living room with a fireplace and the old kitchen where various foods can be prepared. We also added some modern features, like transforming the sun terrace into a lookout point and adding an activity room to the living room. We kept the original shadowy ambiance of the guest rooms while making the courtyard more communal. This way, both villagers and guests can find their own corner to live in.
