Sited at the base of a dramatic mountain range in Henderson, Nevada, this residence serves as a serene sanctuary deeply rooted in its natural environment. The design embraces the surrounding geological beauty, creating an immersive living experience focused on wellness, family, and connection to nature. Guided by the AIA Framework for Design Excellence, the project emphasizes sustainability, well-being, and community engagement. The façade is a striking combination of CMU block walls and a blackened steel exoskeleton, which provides both visual impact and practical protection from the harsh desert climate. This layered design enhances thermal performance, reducing energy consumption while maintaining the home’s connection to its surroundings. The layout fosters family dynamics, with private spaces for children and adults, and communal living areas at the heart, offering expansive mountain views and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Sustainability is integral, utilizing passive cooling, local materials, and innovative shading devices to mitigate solar heat gain, blending architecture and nature to create a tranquil, protective retreat.
