The late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period marked a time of rapid industrial capital accumulation. The Daguangming Rice Mill served as a crucial grain supplier for Longjiang and surrounding areas, helping establish a strong market culture in the old street district. Over time, as the town’s commercial center shifted, the once-bustling marketplace has turned into the "old street" of today.
To reawaken the spirit of this historic Lingnan market town, we have developed a comprehensive revitalization plan for the Longjiang Old Street area. Beyond upgrading essential infrastructure.
The transformation of Longjiang Old Street was a slow “urban acupuncture” process, starting with a pilot project: the renovation of the Grain, Feed and Grocery Market. Located on Renmin South Road and adjacent to a river, this market reflects the area’s rich market culture, blending natural and cultural elements. The buildings are constructed along the river, offering well-preserved structures, ample rental space and strong cultural significance. However, they also face several challenges that require renovation and enhancement.
