Nestled in a hillside community on the city’s southern edge, this residence overlooks a lush conservation area, offering a secluded retreat. Inspired by timeless Oriental aesthetics, particularly Huizhou architecture, the design embraces black-tiled white walls and Ming Dynasty-inspired window details, evoking the poetry of ancient dwellings. Large white surfaces become canvases for light and shadow, while scroll-like windows frame dynamic landscape views.
Accessed via a winding mountain road, the elevated site provides panoramic southern vistas. To adapt to the subtropical climate, double-glazed windows, operable vents, pergolas, and bamboo groves enhance natural ventilation and cooling, while underfloor heating addresses winter humidity.
Organized into two platforms linked by a lift and staircases, the U-shaped layout reinterprets the traditional courtyard house. Expansive southern glazing maximizes views, while slender openings ensure privacy. Designed as both a residence and a living gallery, the villa fosters gatherings and enhances cultural value. Merging tradition and modernity, it captures the enduring spirit of Huizhou architecture in a contemporary context.
