The Dongcaotun Rest Area not only provides convenient and comprehensive parking and restroom services, but through its eco-friendly design, it creates a "self-introducing rest area." The mountain-shaped roof merges with the surrounding topography, presenting itself to travelers and welcoming their arrival to the mountain town, Nantou. By bringing in the mountain view and wind flow, it leads people to feel, perceive, and naturally recognize the surrounding environment.
The Dongcaotun Rest Area has been awarded the "Gold Award" at the 2022 FIABCI-Taiwan Real Easte Excellence Award. It was featured in the February issue of Taiwan Architecture Report magazine under the "TA Good Works Collection." As the first rest area along transverse Taiwan's National Freeways, it adopts an eco-friendly design. Upon its opening in July 2024, it immediately garnered coverage from multiple media outlets.
