Mystic woodland sanctum for children as contemporary emulation
New building for the Sofie Haug Children’s Day-Care Centre in Tübingen
A hybrid-timber building with a walkout basement set into a slope, blending into the woodland.
The two-storey façade combines charred spruce and glazed teal spruce in a patterned design. The angled, brightly framed entrance opens into the building.
A south-facing balcony with slim steel columns and two hot-dip galvanized steel stairways connect to the playground. Timber and steel form a creative workshop space.
The glazed walkout basement offers an atmospheric movement area, with a supporting structure resembling stylised roots linking architecture and nature.
Light spruce walls rise from an earthy rubber floor; sulphur-yellow oak doors symbolize forest flowers. Window seats and wood wool panels create a blue canopy, highlighting the natural theme.
The staircase combines exposed concrete, spruce timber, and black steel as a tactile element.
Natural materials and colour contrasts fulfil children’s desire for narrative architecture.
Bio Architecture is not objective, but influenced by processes, requirements, budgets and cultural-spatial conditions. Our early cooperation with the client – as early as the task development stage – creates a qualitative coherence between the construction project, urban integration, space, form and material. This not only creates an unmistakable building culture, but also a high level of recognition.
