No heating, no cooling, no ventilation
The 2226 JED is an ecologically and economically forward-looking new building that sets new standards in cost, energy, and space efficiency as well as comfort. It is based on the innovative 22·26 principle, which ensures an indoor temperature of 22 to 26 degrees Celsius with virtually no mechanical climatization. The conditions for this comfort are created by an intelligent mix of high storage mass (material quality), cleverly proportioned architecture (light incidence), and efficient control of energy flows with the help of the 2226® Operating System. The necessary heat is provided by the users' body heat (80–100 W) and the usual appliances in the building. It is therefore the combination of architecture and software that makes it possible to develop comfortable and resource-efficient buildings.
With a gross floor area of almost 18,000 m², 2226 JED is the largest building complex to date based on the 22·26 principle. The base is formed by a two-story plinth zone with courtyard-like recesses. From the second and third floors upwards, the basic volume breaks up into three independent structures connected by terraces.
