Metropolitan Hall, rooted in the geometric design language of the 1980s, has been renewed to preserve its spirit while embracing a human-centered vision and sustainability. The renovation avoids excess decoration, focusing on light, materials, and structure. Advanced stage technologies, including the German SBS lift and d&b Soundscape system, are integrated to enhance performance and audience experience.
The refined panel proportions balance geometric precision, while their abstract composition echoes the stage box, framing the building as a performative presence. Aligned with SDGs—making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable— low-maintenance aluminum panels were chosen as the façade, a practical response to Taipei’s humid, rainy climate.
Outdoor areas are redesigned for the flow with surrounding venues, reinforcing public access, enhancing circulation and urban connectivity. Serving as both performance venue and a civic space, invites public engagement, fosters exploration and gathering.
Through thoughtful restoration in the spirit of the original, the project preserves historical meaning while opening new chapters, allowing the story to continue across generations.
