ETHRIO Sheltered Residence in Agios Athanasios, Limassol, is conceived as a dialogue between landscape, climate, and tradition. Anchored on a rocky hillside, it reinterprets the Cypriot iliakos the courtyard house into a contemporary bioclimatic dwelling.
Two volumes define the composition: a grounded stone base accommodating communal living and a pure white hovering upper volume for private quarters.
The elevated structure creates a sheltered courtyard (aithrio) below, dissolving boundaries between interior and exterior while enhancing light, airflow, and climatic performance.
Cantilevered beams, inspired by Mediterranean pergolas, filter sunlight, cool the interiors, and extend shaded outdoor living. Local stone and wood root the architecture in its terrain, while Mediterranean planting and a semi-public park establish a sustainable microclimate.
Oriented to shield from the road and open to the sea, ETHRIO synthesizes protection and openness, tradition and innovation an architecture of lightness, material authenticity, and harmony with nature.
Bio Constantinos Kalisperas Architectural Studio engages critically with the transformation of urban building typologies, rethinking their formal and programmatic logics to generate spatial innovation. Parallel explorations in furniture and object design serve as scaled laboratories for testing architectural concepts, material systems, and fabrication techniques. The practice operates across private and public sectors, advancing architectural and master planning projects that challenge conventional boundaries.
