ETH Zurich / Head of ETH RAUM and Co-Lead MAS Spatial Planning
Andreas Rupf is Head of ETH RAUM at ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. ETH RAUM is the platform for sustainable spatial development and hosts the Master’s programme in Spatial Planning. He studied spatial planning in Switzerland and holds a Master of Arts in Urban Design from the Metropolitan University London, along with further qualifications in business and general management (IMD Lausanne).
His professional background spans public sector leadership, private consulting, and academic teaching — with a focus on strategic planning, participatory process design, and the transformation of urban and regional spaces. Before joining ETH Zurich, he worked as development manager for the Canton of Zurich and as a project manager at Basler & Hofmann.
At ETH Zurich, he has developed ETH RAUM into a transdisciplinary hub that brings together architects, planners, policymakers, and researchers. His work explores how spatial planning can shape responses to key societal challenges such as climate change, mobility transitions, housing crises, digitalisation and AI.
