Juliet Kavishe holds an M (Prof) in Interior Architecture with 18 years of cross-continental experience spanning design practice, education, and research. Her expertise encompasses high-end residential, commercial, and museum design, with a focus on indigeneity, decolonising design, and African design methodologies.
As an Executive Board Member of the Pan-Afrikan Design Institute (PADI), Juliet helps build a community for design professionals and academics focused on African Design and African-centred design education. She addresses contemporary African issues in the design field through policy and research.
Recognised among South Africa’s top 100 Design Voices in 2024, Kavishe received the AMPS Critical Futures Award in 2025 for her groundbreaking paper on Decolonising Design Perspectives. Her work challenges conventional design approaches while championing indigenous knowledge systems and methodologies across the continent.
